Overview

IDA has been formed in 1994 for the promotion of Industrial development in the Western Province, established with the support of the Provincial Council to facilitate building up the economic capacity of the Western Province to improve its economic future and the quality of life for all.

IDA will work with a network of public, private and civil society institutions, and will develop a local economic development process where public, business and non-governmental sector partners work collectively to create better conditions for economic growth and employment generation.

IDA can offer the Provincial Council, decentralized components of the central government, local government, the private sector, the not-for-profit sectors and the local community the opportunity to work together to improve the local economy in the Western Province. It aims to enhance competitiveness and thus encourage sustainable growth that is inclusive.

IDA would identify and analyse local products and economic sectors/sub-sectors with a potential for development into added-value production chains.

IDA also would elaborate with contribution of its stakeholders strategic plans for developing the sectors through an integrated set of measures. It can mobilise and coordinate local producer groups and other economic and institutional stakeholders and promote the territory and its distinct features, identifying potential economic partners and markets for the region at the national and international level.
