A need of our times has been fulfilled with the issue of the Official Web site of the Western Province Industrial Development Authority that could be termed as an important step at present times.
As a country that strives to progress along with new technology, it is essential for every sector at every instance to attempt to go forward, hand in hand with technology.
Thus the service rendered by the Western Province Industrial Development Authority is commendable and I offer my appreciation to the Chairman and the staff of the Authority who are determined to take the institute to greater heights. I also wish them all success in realizing their aspirations.

Message from the Secretary
I commend the launch of the Official Web site of the Western Province Industrial Development Authority that comes within the purview of our Ministry and as the Ministry Secretary, I am privileged to issue a message in that regard. The Western Province is home to 29% of the country’s population and a large number of them are involved in the vast industrial complex in the Province. And at the same time, the majority of the country’s unemployed also could be found there.
Attempt by the Western Province Industrial Development Authority to target this segment of the unemployed and initiate the establishment of various industries to help improve their economic status is a great endeavour on the part of the Authority in its quest to help people participate in the industrial process for the national development of Sri Lanka.
The Authority has also offered industrialists in this sphere, assistance to improve and develop knowledge, skills and attitudes.
It is also appreciated that entrepreneurial training is imparted to people to facilitate the building of small commercial industries and their hidden skills are highlighted while market opportunities are explored for them and advice given regarding necessary fund requirements.

Message from the Chairman
I offer my heart-felt sentiments on the release of the Official Web site of the Western Province Industrial Development Authority that contains the implementing strategy with regard to vision, mission and objectives of the Authority. Within the purview of the No.02 of 1994, the Industrial Development Authority is the lead service provider for industrial development of the Province. And nearly 65% of the industrial segment of the National Economy is based in the Province.
In our distinctive journey towards a production economy, Industrial Development Authority is entrusted with a major task and responsibility and in this respect,I respectfully appreciate the advice and guidance offered by the Hon. Minister, Lalith Wanigaratne.
It was a satisfactory tendency in 2016, that the Authority as a Government organization that provides a gamut of essential services such as educating and guiding industrialists and helping them to find markets for their products, was able to take a new and innovative approach that initially identified the authentic industrialists, helped interacting with them and understanding their areas of operation, suggestions and even criticisms with a practical and management-oriented view. It also must be stated that the Authority is not a state organization based on the profit motive.
I thank the members of the Board of Directors and the whole staff under Prasanna Sujith Kumara, Executive Director, who as members of one big family, engaged with me in disciplined commitment and carried out their duties, in understanding and trust, in order to help realize our aspirations as well as projecting a new image for the Authority within a short while. I also highly appreciate the support and advice extended to me at all times.

Western Province Industrial Development Authority has been instituted under the Local Government Ordinance No.02 of 1994, for the purpose of promotion, development, establishment and encouragement of the Province’s industrial base. It is the intention of the Authority to provide micro, small and medium-sized industries with all the necessaryservices, to carry out the tasks of a facility provider and to provide the highest levels of assistance for economic development and all these to be achieved within the recommendations contained in the 5-year complex plan while being guided by the vision of being the pioneer service provider in the industrial sphere.
Among the large number of services provided to the industrialists in the Province by the Authority are financial and trade facilities, entrepreneurship development programmes, contributory pensions scheme that has been offered to the industrialists, business advisories, preparation of project reports and programmes for the empowerment of women in the sphere of economic activity and they occupy a unique position in the activity calendar.
With the blessings of the Governor and the Chief Minister of the Western Province and Provincial Minister of Industries and on the advice of the Secretary to the Provincial Ministry of Industries and the Chairman and the Board of Directors of the Industrial Development Authority, I as Director and my staff at the Authority, are committed robustly and dutifully to achieve the objectives of the Authority and to give the necessary support for the implementation of the government’s economic policy by extending the commitment and support towards the upliftment of small and medium scale industrialists of the Province and contributing towards the economic development of the country though the development and promotion of industry in the Province.
